Folk-dance group „Uguntiņa” (“Flame”) of “Rīgas Skolēnu pils” is the oldest dance group in the country, owning the deepest roots of tradition. The group was established in 1948. 150 children from age of five participate in it. The dance group was created and leaded for 58 years by the choreographer Audiona Līventāle. At the repertoire of “Uguntiņa” there are Latvian and foreign country dances, children ballet performances. „Uguntiņa” gives a lot of concerts. Since 1963 it regularly gives concerts at Latvia National Opera and Latvia National theatre. Several former participants of “Uguntiņa” today lead dance groups themselves, have become choreographs, ballet dancers being famous in Latvia. Also now all the present pedagogues of “Uguntiņa” are its former dancers.
Dance school “Dzintarjūra” (“Amber Sea”) exists already more than 40 years, the students learn Latin American dances, as well as ball dances: Slow Valse, Quickstep, Tango, Foxtrot, Vienna Valse, Cha-Cha-Cha, Samba, Rumba, Pasodoble, Jive. The students have the possibility to chose dances as a kind of sport and actively participate at sport dance competitions or master dances to spend their leisure time, to develop correct stand, rhythmical pace and elegance. In summers the recreation and dance training camps are organised for students.
